town trip

 Town Trip

On the 20th of May Tumu Hub went to town to look at designs and ideas for our PBL. There was 4 rotations, we went to see and ride a waka, look around Victoria Square, play at Margaret Mahy and we feed some tuna.

My favourite part of the trip was getting the chance to ride a waka on the Avon because it was really cool to learn the way to paddle the waka. When we finally got in the water we went up and down the river 4 times as we were chanting “Hee! Haa! Hee! Haa!”.

Something I learnt was that Margaret Mahy playground is designed about the important parts of Ngāi Tahu, like the slides and bumps where the trampolines are represent the Port Hills, there are a load of carvings into the ground and in the water section there are tuna.

The thing I found the most interesting was learning about all the different statues placed all around the Victoria Square because they had metal rectangles with writing about the person, there was about 2 statues with Queen Victoria and Captain Cook.

This trip has helped me with my PBL because I saw a lot of different and new designs and ideas like mats and pou carvings that I could use for my PBL this term. I have more knowledge about pou and mat designs. I could use that knowledge to suggest ideas for pou at school. We could put it at the front gate.
